Coat of arms of Naberezhnye Chelny, Republic of Tatarstan

Coat of arms of Naberezhnye Chelny

Description of the coat of arms
In an azure field, above a silver wavy base, there is a golden boat under sail with seven visible oars. The bow is decorated with a maiden’s head facing forward, wearing a headscarf with flowing ribbons. The sail is divided into green and red parts, both edged with gold.

Symbolism
The boat is the main figure of the coat of arms and directly refers to the city’s name. In heraldry this is a classic example of a canting coat of arms. The boat symbolises steady movement forward, overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.

The full sail speaks of a fair wind, luck and success. Its outline resembles a tulip, a traditional symbol of spirituality in Tatarstan, and presents Naberezhnye Chelny as a distinctive pearl of the republic. The silver waves symbolise the Kama River and the Nizhnekamsk Reservoir.

Gold symbolises strength, greatness, wealth and respect. Silver symbolises purity and perfection. Azure stands for truth, honour and virtue. Green represents nature, health, spring and renewal. Red is a symbol of labour, courage, vital energy and celebration.
